Dooley completed the Swannanoa's $2 million construction on selected Saturdays from May to November 1912. This 19th century Victorian house was built in 1856 on the banks of the New River, just a few miles north of Radford, West Virginia. The house served as a museum with many artefacts about Radford's beginnings and was originally built in the late 18th and early 20th centuries for the school inspector. Superintendent Smith created Virginia's first school building and public school system by adopting the Revolutionary War muskets of 1856.
